Each is RLV-enabled and allows others to exert a fun amount control over you in ways that are natural and intuitive.

The Central Control Unit (CCU) is a core designed for android, robot, clockwork doll, and similar avatars. In combination with other components and accessories, it allows others to mute, immobilize, or deactivate you. Program modules can also be installed to access advanced functions of the CCU that remain unlike any other product we are aware of in Second Life. In addition to exerting direct control over you, the CCU also allows you to be programmed with rules that you are expected to roleplay. Active rule sets (modes) can be changed using an Access Panel or Remote Control. Basic use of the CCU is straightforward, and it comes with a built-in guided tour of its features to help you get started. More sophisticated users can write their own custom program modules to create truly unique robotic characters.

The ArtCore is designed for mannequin, statue, doll, and similar avatars that are normally immobile. The ArtCore allows you to be animated – allowing automatic change of appearance in addition to letting you move and speak for a limited time – using a magical talisman. The ArtCore is a simpler product than the CCU, just as statues are simpler constructs than robots.

Before choosing a core, give some thought to what kind of character you want to play and how it was created. You may want to look at some advice to help you with this process.

The ArtCore and CCU are not designed to be used together, but you can own both and use them at different times to play different types of characters.

Purchasing a Core

You can purchase a CCU or ArtCore for yourself, or for another avatar.

Go to the Workshop inside the ACS Building, or the Loading Dock outside it, and find the Core Vendor Kiosk.

The player who will receive the core should click on the ad for the desired core (CCU or ArtCore).

The player who will pay for the core (can be the same one who will receive it) should check the text over the kiosk to to make sure it is set to give the correct core to the correct avatar, then right-click on the kiosk and Pay it the indicated amount. (Overpayments will be returned to you. Donations to ACS can be given to Nina, the automated receptionist at the entrance. Refunds for incorrect or duplicate purchases cannot be offered.)

The player receiving the core will need to accept delivery of it. It will then appear as a new subfolder in your #RLV folder (#RLV/~ACS CCU or #RLV/~ACS ArtCore).

We strongly recommend immediately making a backup copy of the purchased folder. This way, if you should accidentally delete, lose, or break your core, you can just make a new copy from the backup.

ACS does not currently have a redelivery terminal, but we do keep records of purchases and can manually redeliver lost products if necessary. Contact JulieDoll or send a request to the ACS Helpdesk.

Using the Core

After receiving your core, you have three choices for how to begin using it.

The core is delivered ready to use, so you can simply attach the folder from your inventory. This is best if you just want something simple and foolproof, or if your character was created as a construct previously in your backstory.

If you want to roleplay your initial creation from raw materials as a construct, by yourself or with another player (your designer, artist, builder, or creator), use the Factory (available soon). (Follow the link for instructions.)

If you want to roleplay your conversion from a living being into a construct, by yourself or with another player who is helping or compelling you to be converted, use the Conversion Chamber. (Follow the link for instructions.)

If you are looking for a partner with whom to roleplay your creation or conversion, you may wish to see some advice on finding a partner.

ACS currently offers two core products that act as roleplay aids for controllable construct avatars.
