ACS accepts donations of unwanted and abandoned constructs, including robots, dolls, mannequins, and statues. It is expected that most donations will be damaged and require significant repairs to be returned to usable or displayable condition. However, all donations should be in safe condition:
- No leaking fluids (check batteries and coolants)
- No radiation (check power supplies)
- Powered constructs should be turned fully off
Note that constructs left here will be considered property of ACS, which may at our sole discretion choose to:
- Repair,
- Refurbish,
- Resell,
- Reprogram,
- Rename,
- Dismantle,
- Employ,
or otherwise use or dispose of them in any way we see fit.
Constructs to be donated may be left in the labeled drop box outside the ACS building in Coghaven, just below the main arrival point. If you are uncertain as to whether your unit is a suitable donation, you may check with JulieDoll (brattle) or other ACS staff.
OOC
If you play a construct, this is a way you can offer yourself to ACS for ownership. There is no guarantee you will be taken as ACS property – we will only accept property we find to be interesting and worth our time. See ACS Ownership for more information about what we’re most likely to find interesting. At a minimum, you must be able to roleplay effectively in English.
As part of your donation, please create a notecard and ctrl-drag it into the drop box sign. (If you prefer, email to acs@acs-hub.net is also acceptable.) Its title (or subject line) should be, “Donation to ACS of (your SL name)”. In its contents, please address the following in as much detail as you like:
- Your SL name (again)
- Type of construct (e.g. robot, doll, mannequin, statue, etc.)
- Character gender and apparent species (note that we prefer constructs in human form)
- A picture of your character, along with any additional description that isn’t shown in the picture but would be evident (for example, you might tell me that your face has been badly damaged by fire)
- Information that would be discovered by a careful inspection, which likely includes:
- your basic capabilities, including what you could be used for
- ways in which you are damaged and/or will require repairs
- evidence about your origin, such as manufacturer’s marks or biological material
- Please answer these questions in as much detail as you care to. Your answers will help us understand what you-the-player are hoping for out of being owned by ACS. You may address other information you’d like us to know as well.
- For you, how is playing a construct different from playing a person?
- What is your main reason for choosing to play a construct?
- What is your main reason for wanting to be owned?
- What is your main reason for wanting to be owned by ACS, in particular?
- How do you feel about being modified by ACS? Modifications might include changes to your appearance, control system, or (for robots) programming.
- What sorts of things do you hope ACS will use you for?
- Briefly, what will your character’s response be to finding itself owned by ACS?
- ACS believes strongly in player consent. It will ALWAYS be okay for you to OOC say if a scene is going in a direction you do not want, and we will change direction. That said, what else would you like me to know ahead of time about your interests, preferences, abilities, or limits?
- Assuming you’re enjoying things, about how much time and/or when are you likely to be available in SL?
The above information will be used to help us decide whether owning you might make sense (that is, whether we find you to be interesting!) and to plan what we might like to do with you that you will also enjoy. If answering these questions feels like a burden to you, we’re probably not very compatible.
We encourage you also to think about your backstory, especially if your character is capable of talking about it. Who owned you previously, if anyone? (It doesn’t have to have been a player; you can make up a previous “owner” and decide what they were like, how you were used, and how you felt about it.) How do you feel about having been given away? Do you have any goals or desires? If you were converted from a person, what were the circumstances of that? If not, who built you and for what purpose? Were you custom-built, or just one of a long production line? That sort of thing helps to make your character more interesting and three-dimensional.
After sending your notecard, you may remain in the drop-off bin in front of the ACS building, but you don’t have to. We will contact you when we are ready to negotiate what happens next. Sometimes we get busy or are away from SL for a little while, so don’t panic if you don’t hear from us right away (but if more than a week goes by, it’s fine to send a follow-up message just to make sure we didn’t lose track of you).
